Role Purpose
Based in Buenos Aires and reporting to the Country Director for Argentina and Chile, this key role ensures our operations in both countries run smoothly, compliantly, and in line with internal standards and external regulations.
You’ll manage the day-to-day operational requirements of our Argentina and Chile offices, supportin areas such as compliance, risk, health and safety, and property management, including leases, insurance, and supplier contracts. You’ll also play an important role in supporting the Regional Director, handling the logistics for travel, work permits, and international mobility.
With a clear focus on governance and standards, you’ll oversee compliance across a broad spectrum including tax and legal status, environmental frameworks, IT, data protection, procurement, and security. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact by ensuring our work in Argentina and Chile meets both local regulatory obligations and global corporate standards.
Main accountabilities but not limited to the following
- Lead and implement any premises related projects, including possibility of new or upgraded premises, refurbishments, or new leases
- Take the operational lead for Resources Management in line with local, regional and global policies.
- Coordinate and oversee the provision of professional, cost-effective and high-quality services across our facilities and premises, including IT, maintenance, security, cleaning, transport and messenger services.
- Design, implement and control Health and Safety, Business continuity and Incident Management procedures across all premises and in all other venues where we have operations, ensuring compliance with corporate and local regulations and in those aspects related to staff security.
- Maintain an up-to-date facilities and asset list to ensure that properties and assets meet standards for safety, security and energy and environmental impact.
- Act as focal point for Information Knowledge Management, Health and Safety and the Environmental Framework Tool and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, providing oversight of risks and advising on strategies to manage those risks.
- Manage International Assignee presence (Regional Director), including knowledge of key policies and processes and official organizations applicable to incoming and exiting international (UK) staff on assignment to Argentina, management of residence and receipt and dispatch of UKA staff personal goods on arrival and departure, working with external suppliers as necessary and the British Council´s international mobility department in the UK.
- Manage travel bookings for RD and CD and raise payment orders.
- Ensure the quality and compliance of contracts held by the British Council are in line with local / UK law, regulations, internal policy and standards, as well as maintaining an accurate and up to date contract register for the office.
- Manage supplier relations, service delivery, and monitor performance of key suppliers.
- Manage contract register.
- Oversee compliance with mandatory training
- Manage powers of attorney in both Argentina and Chile, ensuring these are up to date at all times, and renewed well in advance.
- Support the management of relationships.
- Manage the Facilities & Premises budget in compliance with corporate and local requirements, demonstrating efficiencies across the operation.
Requirements of the role
- Proven experience in managing systems and processes.
- Given the responsibility for British Council premises, this is a role where the post holder will need to be available via mobile outside of standard working hours in cases of emergency.
- Spanish (CEFR C2). English (CEFR C1).
Additional Information
- Candidates are expected to live in Buenos Aires or at a commuting distance to the Remote Teaching Centre (our premises in Retiro), since the position requires to work according to the hybrid working policy.
