Role Overview
We are seeking to appoint a senior professional to lead a study aimed at aligning environmental and social practices of a potential future large-scale mining operation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and Equator Principles (EP4). The study will provide clear pathways to meet all requirements of these standards. This is a two-year fixed-term appointment with an opportunity to extend, based in Salta, Argentina wich involves regular travels to the project site and surrounding project areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of environmental and social studies in line with the IFC Performance Standards and EP4.
- Review existing specialist environmental and social reports, assessments, management plans, and monitoring data.
- Identify and help fill gaps in baseline data, analysis, or management measures needed to meet IFC and EP4 requirements.
- Ensure that the project continues to obtain Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) from local communities.
- Develop a clear set of recommendations and an implementation roadmap.
- Coordinate with external and internal biodiversity, social, and technical specialists.
- Engage widely with internal teams, regulators, potential financiers, and auditors.
- Prepare high-quality reports, analysis, schedules, budgets, and presentations for decision-making.
- Keep track of tasks, activities, and cost control.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or other relevant tertiary qualification
- At least 10 years’ professional experience in environmental management. Experience in social management or community engagement will be advantageous.
- Proven expertise applying IFC Performance Standards, EP4 or similar internationally recognized safeguards.
- Strong technical writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluency in Spanish is required, and proficiency in English will be advantageous.
- Experience in the Mining Industry.
- Familiarity with UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples would be an asset.
